The Southeast Utah Health Department (SEUHD) is currently recruiting applicants to fill the position of Health Officer/Executive Director of the SEUHD, serving Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties.  Headquarter offices are located in Price, Utah and applicants must reside in Carbon County or be willing to re-locate to Carbon County within 60 days of date of hire.  Applicants must have a valid driver license and be willing and able to travel between SEUHD offices within Carbon, Emery and Grand counties.  Applicants must either be (1) board certified to practice medicine in the state of Utah in preventive medicine or in a primary care specialty, or (2) must have a master’s degree in public health, nursing, or other health discipline related to public health, public administration or business administration with at least five years of professional full-time experience in the practice of public health, of which three of those years must be in a senior administrative capacity.

Industrial Hygiene Assistant

Description:
The Industrial Hygiene Assistants (IHA) share some duties, but also have specific areas of responsibility. They report to the Senior Industrial Hygienist. Program areas of responsibility, typically assigned to an individual IHA include duties associated with the confined space program, the inspection and calibration of fixed and portable gas detection systems, assisting with the respiratory protection program including fit testing, and inspecting and testing a variety of ventilation control systems. Although there are individual responsibilities, work may be shared between individuals. Some programs may require the occasional use of a hammer, electric drill, and various hand tools. The confined space program requires the occasional use of a magnetic lifting device to remove and manipulate steel covers. 

Additional shared duties include: assisting with exposure assessments, calibrating sampling equipment, placing sampling equipment on employees, pre- and post-calibration of pumps, recording workplace observations for industrial hygiene investigations, assisting with asbestos clearance sampling, noise surveys, sample prep and shipping, delivering samples, assisting the Sr. Industrial Hygienist with training, and developing and updating standard operating procedures as well as cross training with other IHAs.  

Although duties are shared, this particular vacancy will have an emphasis on testing and record keeping associated with the hearing conservation program.  

Qualifications: 

Individuals must be able to work unsupervised, perform tasks meticulously, and have good written and oral communication skills. Must be able to accurately maintain Excel data bases, and be capable at Word and Power Point. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to perform the physical aspects of this job, lift 50 pounds and wear a respirator (must pass OSHA-required medical evaluation and fit-test).

Preference given to applicants with a science/technology major or with relevant experience.  

Additional Information:

There is a 20 hour per week cap on this position. Students are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, preferably not less than 3-4 hour blocks. Letters of referral are welcome.
