Utah Department of Health Communicable Disease Reporting Intern Apply online at

DCPIP is currently recruiting for a part-time intern to assist with communicable disease data collection, entry, and management. Through this opportunity, the intern will gain a greater understanding of public health surveillance and reporting processes; data management and security; electronic data exchange from clinical health to public health; and surveillance system and process integration. 

 The primary objectives of the position are: 

• Ensure communicable disease reporting is complete, timely, and accurate. 

• Enter laboratory data (manually and electronically). 

• Identify data quality errors and make improvement recommendations. 

• Ensure complete and timely case notification to CDC and case transfer to other public health departments. 


Major responsibilities include: 

• Enter laboratory data into a public health database, UT-NEDSS (TriSano/EpiTrax), according to established protocols to ensure high data quality. 

• Database management (i.e., identify and resolve duplicates, ensure rapid data entry and case transfer). 

• Transfer cases to other public health departments and report data to CDC within expected timelines. 

• Process electronic laboratory data and assist in validating electronic feeds. 


Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

• Complete projects and tasks with minimal supervision. 

• Follow complex protocols. 

• Prioritize projects and tasks. 

• Comfortable using web-based applications. 

• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. 

• Familiarity with infectious diseases and laboratory testing is preferred. 


This is a part-time, career service exempt position without benefits.

Provo and Orem Rehab are a rehab and nursing facility serving the elderly population. Many of our residents also have cognitive disorders such as dementia and some are mentally ill. Interns would assist in completing mood interviews, gathering information for social service assessments and can also participate in daily activities or visits with the residents to improve their overall well-being. We would like someone who could be here 5-10 hours per week – preferably Monday-Friday. This would be an unpaid internship.

This position will implement strategies and plans for identification and control of occupational health exposures. Conduct routine baseline monitoring, bulk sampling and prepare reports for presentation to the Industrial Hygienist. Summer projects may include an active role in assisting with noise surveys, characterizing work locations, developing sampling plans, and conducting IH samples according to the plan. Intern will interface with refinery personnel to ensure compliance with company policy and OSHA standards. Successful applicants must possess strong communication, organizational and planning skills, with the ability to work effectively as a team member. Qualification Preference: Pursuit of a Bachelor’s of Science or higher level degree in the fall 2018 session. Friends For Sight Internship and Volunteers Cassandra Fullmer,

Help Friends for Sight perform vision screenings in Utah and/or Salt Lake County and promote vision safety and eye health! Our screenings truly bring awareness of vision problems to many people who would have no idea that their eyes were struggling! To volunteer, we ask that you attend a volunteer training on BYU Campus or in our office in Salt Lake and commit to at least 20 hours of service in one year.

Friends for Sight is looking for an intern for the upcoming semester! This is a great opportunity for public health students to gain experience with an established nonprofit and gain skills they are seeking to have as they graduate the program. 

Friends for Sight provides vision screenings and education for all ages, with an emphasis on preventing blindness in children by screening early to correct potential issues. In the last year, Friends for Sight screened over 41,000 children and 5,000 adults for vision issues. Screenings take place throughout the state of Utah and interns would play a great part in expanding the reach of Friends for Sight. These screenings can truly change the course of someone's life by preventing long-term vision issues.

Working directly with the Executive Director and other staff, students can gain great work experience in the nonprofit sector while gaining skills that will put them above other applicants once looking for jobs. Applicants must have a reliable form of transportation and be willing to help with screenings in Utah and Salt Lake Counties.

Mountain View Hospital Patient Connection Program Internship

The program is intended for any level of degree seeking students for any school

in Utah. No prior experience is needed but preference will be given to those with

previous healthcare experience. The minimum GPA required to participate is 3.0. It is

expected that students will dedicate 8-10 hours per week to the internship. This

includes time spent at the hospital, doing weekly readings, attending networking events,

and attending weekly internship meetings. The program is unpaid, but is for academic

credit. Students will be expected to add 3 credit hours to their academic schedule. It is

42 hours per credit (126 hours for the semester) and at 8-10 hours a week, 3 credits is

easily obtainable. The program requires full commitment during Fall or Winter

semesters (August to April), with an optional Spring/Summer extension (April to

August). Those who wish to continue the program should let the internship coordinator

know no later than two months into the semester (October for Fall and February for


To participate in the internship experience one must be affiliated with BYU, UVU,

or another college in the area. The internship is not exclusive to Healthcare

Administration. As this internship is associated with interacting with patients, all majors

of a health care nature are welcome to apply. In the past our interns have been majors

in Community Health, Healthcare Administration, Pre-med, Pre-PA, Nursing, etc.


It is nearly unprecedented for a hospital to allow this level of exposure to students. As

such, it is imperative that all interns demonstrate a high level of initiative and

professionalism while accomplishing the following:

● Identify and work on hospital-specific projects

● Maintain accountability to self, mentor, and internship coordinator

● Dedicate 10 hours per week to the internship; 8 of which in the hospital

● Stay current on readings and come prepared to weekly internship meetings

● Send monthly reports to Brad LeBaron
