Health Education (Part 1)

BYU Online High School

Maintaining good health poses one of the biggest challenges we face as human beings, and during the pandemic we have seen people struggle in different ways. Whether or not we have suffered physically from the virus, most of us have experienced new types of turmoil and stress.

It’s all about balance.

Our health and well-being not only have to do with the physical aspect of life, but also the mental, emotional, social, environmental, and spiritual aspects.

Health Education, Part 1 focuses on teaching how to balance well-being in all of these different areas and how each one is essential to a healthy life:

  • Comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention.

  • Analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.

  • Access valid health information, products, and services.

  • Use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

  • Use decision-making skills to enhance health.

  • Use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

  • Practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

  • Advocate for personal, family, and community health.

In this course, students learn to make healthy decisions for themselves and are encouraged to talk to their parents about sensitive subjects. This course teaches students how to deal with adversity and avoid unhealthy behaviors, while also learning new ways to implement healthy behaviors.
