We hope you have enjoyed each of our Especially for Friday events this year. We are excited to announce our last speaker of the school year, Emily Wright of the Utah Valley Institute of Religion. Originally from Manassas, Virginia, Emily earned her bachelor’s degree from BYU in Exercise Science and her master’s degree from Arizona State University in Family and Human Development. She will be addressing us this Friday, May 21. So before we hear from her, let’s get to know her a little bit!
How long have you been teaching at UVU Institute?
“I have been teaching at the UVU Institute for a year now, and before that, I taught at Provo High Seminary for six years and Bingham High School seminary for two years.”
What do you love most about teaching?
“My favorite thing about teaching is seeing the change the Savior makes in individuals, [and] being reminded repeatedly that He knows us personally and is constantly involved.”
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not teaching?
“I love being outside, especially spending some time in the ocean snorkeling or paddleboarding. I love camping, and honestly, any activity where I get to hang with my family.”
What’s your family like?
“I am the youngest of four kids. I have two sisters and one brother, and I have a total of fourteen nieces and nephews! Since I am the youngest, I am the favorite, naturally!”
What unexpected blessing has the pandemic brought into your life?
“A slower pace that has allowed me to spend more time with my family, and I bought a mini-Labradoodle right before COVID hit—named Rusty—whom I absolutely love!! The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.”
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
“I learned how to surf in Hawaii by two local cute boys.”
Best advice you could give?
“Live intentionally. Don’t have regrets. Give it your all, and trust that it’s enough!”
Those are words to live by! We’ve had fun getting to know Emily here, but are even more excited to get to know her better when she addresses us.
