Just over a year ago, the university granted permission for BYU Continuing Education to launch a semester-based, 100% online full-time high school program, and what a year it has been! Who knew that a pandemic was about to make this decision seem prescient.
Last fall our pilot freshman class started—a group of 41 intrepid 14-year-olds—and we have spent the entire school year laying a firm foundation for school years to come. This fall we welcome them back (with new schoolmates) as sophomores, as well as welcoming in a new freshman class—the class of 2025.
At the same time, our full-time private online high school also includes about 900 students who engage via our Open Enrollment option. These students take courses with more flexibility—up to 12 months to complete each course. We welcome all of you to our student community as well!
We hope that all full-time BYU OHS students will seek out opportunities to participate in student clubs, attend assemblies, and listen to our monthly “Especially for Fridays” inspirational speaker. Email an advisor for access information and schedules if you need them. Follow our BYU OHS Facebook page to receive updates and keep up with what's going on.
We hope this blog will provide a place where you can learn about news, events, new ways of approaching your schoolwork, your fellow classmates, your teachers, courses you may want to take, and much more.
If you have topics you would like to suggest, please shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’d like to share your BYU OHS story and advice for new students, those are welcome as well.
As we close out our first school year, we are amazed at the progress and growth we have seen in our students. We look forward to an even better school year starting in August.
