High School students have the option to either complete the standard diploma track or the advanced diploma track. These links will take you to the page on our website, hs.byu.edu, that lists the course and credit requirements for each track: https://hs.byu.edu/standard and https://hs.byu.edu/advanced.
BYU Online High School requires that students complete at least 25 percent of their total credits through BYU OHS. Additionally, students must be enrolled at BYU OHS during the semester of their intended graduation and complete at least two courses with BYU OHS during their senior year. Concurrent Enrollment courses taken and passed at BYU or through BYU Independent Study University courses can count toward the 25 percent. External credits and transfer credits (including BYU Independent Study High School courses) do not count toward the 25 percent.
If this requirement is met, students can move forward in their schooling to graduate at an accelerated pace through BYU Online High School. Students can accelerate their graduation by taking classes over the summer and additional classes on top of their regular classwork. However, any additional classes (more than the 6-7 allotted) must be approved by the school counselor. While students can do more work to graduate early, we cannot guarantee how early they will graduate. It is possible to move up one’s graduation by a semester or two but more than that may not be feasible through BYU Online High School. Please speak to a school counselor or advisor for more information.
No. Being enrolled in BYU Online High School does not increase one’s chances of getting into BYU. The admissions process is unbiased and impartial to which high school a student attended.
In accordance with BYU Online High School’s accreditation, students must complete 25% (6-7) of their credits through BYU Online High School in order to be eligible to receive a diploma.
